If you can easily identify similarities between the two sets of values, being decisive will come naturally to you in your leadership role. However, here’s where it gets interesting, and what separates the good leaders from the great leaders. Once you have your personal and organizational values, compare the two sets to look for consistencies. Compare the organizational values to some of the decisions being made, and ask if they align with each other. Ask if they are still relevant or if they need to be revised. Once you find the organization’s values, study them to the point you understand them enough to explain them to others. Truth be told, organizational values should be evident by the way the business is conducted and the decisions being made however, that is not always the case. Many people may be able to recite the values, yet they can’t explain what role they play or their purpose. The problem with most organizational values is very few employees know and understand what they are. If they are not prominently displayed on a wall, visit the website, or ask around. This is now your “personal compass ” your “true north!"Ĭhances are your organization has a set of values. Type them up on a nice piece of paper so you can refer to them often. Let your answers “sit” for a few days, then re-visit them to finalize your list. After completing your list ask yourself the “why questions” to get better clarification on each of your answers. Values are deep-rooted, so you shouldn’t have a difficult time coming up with a list. Ask yourself what makes you who you are? What do you believe in? How do you define right from wrong? What is most important to you? Start by defining your values and writing them down. More importantly, they know what they stand for this begins with understanding their personal values. Your personal values make you what you are, and if you're not utilizing them daily in your leadership role, you are not being authentic! A large reason certain leaders are much greater than others, when it comes to decision-making, is the fact they know who they are. Here are four steps to help you become a powerful decision-maker in any leadership role: You can learn to do the same with a little effort. Decisive leaders understand their personal and organization’s values and know how to utilize them effectively & efficiently when tough decisions arise. Leaders get the “big bucks” because they are decisive… they make quality decisions quickly! However, have you ever wondered why certain leaders are better decision-makers then others? Well, it all comes down to having an “internal compass,” so-to-speak. *This article was originally published on Thrive Global “It’s not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are.” - Roy Disney Four steps to becoming a powerful decision-maker

The cycle path column is computed in the same way as the depth-first ordering column show in the previous section. For example, if we needed to compare fields f1 and f2: In the general case where more than one field needs to be checked to recognize a cycle, use an array of rows. SELECT g.id, g.link, g.data, sg.depth + 1,Īside from preventing cycles, the array value is often useful in its own right as representing the “ path” taken to reach any particular row. WITH RECURSIVE search_graph(id, link, data, depth, is_cycle, path) AS ( We add two columns is_cycle and path to the loop-prone query: Instead we need to recognize whether we have reached the same row again while following a particular path of links. Because we require a “ depth” output, just changing UNION ALL to UNION would not eliminate the looping. This query will loop if the link relationships contain cycles. SELECT g.id, g.link, g.data, sg.depth + 1 WITH RECURSIVE search_graph(id, link, data, depth) AS ( For example, consider again the following query that searches a table graph using a link field: The standard method for handling such situations is to compute an array of the already-visited values. However, often a cycle does not involve output rows that are completely duplicate: it may be necessary to check just one or a few fields to see if the same point has been reached before. Sometimes, using UNION instead of UNION ALL can accomplish this by discarding rows that duplicate previous output rows. When working with recursive queries it is important to be sure that the recursive part of the query will eventually return no tuples, or else the query will loop indefinitely. That column will implicitly be added to the output rows of the CTE. The SEARCH clause specifies whether depth- or breadth first search is wanted, the list of columns to track for sorting, and a column name that will contain the result data that can be used for sorting. This syntax is internally expanded to something similar to the above hand-written forms. ) SEARCH BREADTH FIRST BY id SET ordercol SELECT * FROM search_tree ORDER BY ordercol There is built-in syntax to compute a depth- or breadth-first sort column. The order of the rows within each level is certainly undefined, so some explicit ordering might be desired in any case. However, this is an implementation detail and it is perhaps unsound to rely on it. The recursive query evaluation algorithm produces its output in breadth-first search order. SELECT t.id, t.link, t.data, path || ROW(t.f1, t.f2) For example, if we needed to track fields f1 and f2: In the general case where more than one field needs to be used to identify a row, use an array of rows. SELECT t.id, t.link, t.data, path || t.id WITH RECURSIVE search_tree(id, link, data, path) AS ( To add depth-first ordering information, you can write this: WITH RECURSIVE search_tree(id, link, data) AS ( For example, consider the following query that searches a table tree using a link field: To create a depth-first order, we compute for each result row an array of rows that we have visited so far. This approach merely provides a convenient way to order the results afterwards. Note that this does not actually control in which order the query evaluation visits the rows that is as always in SQL implementation-dependent. This can be done by computing an ordering column alongside the other data columns and using that to sort the results at the end. When computing a tree traversal using a recursive query, you might want to order the results in either depth-first or breadth-first order. The STEAM education units in the school covered a wide range of topics. Data was collected through qualitative interviews with teachers and field notes from classroom observations by the researchers. The researchers observed a K-5 elementary school in southeastern Wisconsin over the course of an academic year. The paper is one of the first to study STEAM education teaching practices. The paper’s authors were Quigley Dani Herro, associate professor of digital media and learning at the Clemson University School of Education Elizabeth King, associate professor and chair of the educational foundations department at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Holly Plank, a graduate student researcher at the Pitt School of Education. The paper, “STEAM Designed and Enacted: Understanding the Process of Design and Implementation of STEAM Curriculum in an Elementary School,” was published this past May in the Journal of Science Education and Technology. My experience is that things really change when they are involved from the outset,” said Cassie Quigley, an associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education and the lead author of the study. One key is involving the arts and humanities teachers from the beginning. Others do a full overhaul on their curriculum. “Some schools simply swap STEAM for STEM without much attention to the arts. As more K-12 schools upgrade their curriculums to incorporate the arts and humanities into STEM education, there are several practices they can utilize to improve student learning experiences, according to a new research paper.Įnhancements include fully integrating the arts/humanities into the revamped STEAM curriculum, providing greater levels of ongoing support for teachers, and building lessons around multi-disciplinary problems that are relevant and engaging to students. TikTok advertisements are personalised to feeds, while a great advantage of Reels for its audience is that it does not feature advertisements. Sponsored content is usually offered by larger companies, and therefore exists more for the sake of helping the influencers grow rather than the companies. TikTok includes both advertisements and sponsored content. TikTok also offers more in-depth insights into your audience, while Reels does not offer anything extra to Instagram’s ordinary analytics. Part of TikTok’s appeal to Gen Z and Millenials is how easy it is to blow up and instantly become a monetised influencer. Instagram has always had a difficult to navigate and changeable algorithm, and Reels has not yet developed one which is as clear or effective as TikTok’s for this type of content. Instagram has always been about image and presentation, so an advantage to Reels is that a thumbnail for a video can be chosen from your camera roll, while on TikTok it must be a frame from the video itself. There is not yet an option to save a Reel, which means that the that work is arguably more protected, inline with Instagram’s original business model. The videos are however saved with a watermark and credit to the user at the end, protecting the content to a certain extent. TikTok sometimes has an option to save videos to your camera roll, which could be off-putting for creatives. The downside to this is that filters and effects are not separated on Reels - they come under the same umbrella, which means that you can only choose one and therefore have less versatility in the final look of your video. The Reels equivalent is not quite as powerful, but does offer filters that include better touch up features. One of TikTok’s most valuable features for some is the touch up button, which applies a softening effect to your face. For users who are trying to keep up with trends, specific effects are sometimes necessary. Reels only has the filters used on Instagram Stories, and does not have many effects compared to TikTok. TikTok’s trends often come from specific video effects. (I have bad wrists so kneading by hand for that long would be a bit painful. I am almost positive I used the correct amounts of everything, and my dough looks good and is rising well, but I’m afraid to do this recipe again. Not good! I stopped and finished by hand. There was no way to let it go long enough to get to windowpane because it kept climbing up and getting pushed through the springs into the machine itself. It sounded terrible and was grinding like crazy. I mixed it by hand until it was formed enough to knead and let it go to trust the recipe, but the dough hook could barely push it around. I may have ruined my kitchen aid! The dough was to the top of the mixing bowl before even trying to knead. the amount of dough in my mixer was insane and caused a lot of issues.
